Can you go wrong when your assignment involves a nice summer afternoon on the coast a new Bentley Convertible?
OK, it wasn't all the easy. I spent quite a bit of time fighting the light due to the time restrictions I had to shoot the Bentley Continental. I would have liked to be able to photograph the car around 7:00pm, but was limited to around 4:30pm to 5:30pm. In August the light is right overhead and extremely bright. Given the limited available locations on a popular coastline spot I as squeezed into a very tight space and had to shoot directly into the sun. The biggest challenge for this shoot was not the sun, it was keeping other parked cars and pedestrians out of the photos.
I set up three lights, pulled my car up in front of the Bentley to use my roof as a perch to shoot from and shot away.
The three photos below are images I created for me, not my client. My client's needs are somewhat straight forward and specific, so when I finished their work I set out to have some fun. I pulled out my modified Holga toy lens, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holga, which fits on my Canon EOS 1D series bodies, and a 24f3.5 Tilt-Shift lens, that is really designed for shooting architecture images, and began to play.
Below are the three images I created for me. I played with gels on my strobe lights and changing the white balance in the camera to match the gels that hit a limited part of the car. By adjusting the white balance to match the gels rather than the ambient light I created some funky unnatural colours in the sky.
